Partying like it's 1999
I think I had more fun celebrating Finley's Birthday today than she did! It was a sweet afternoon with my girl. She got to do everything she wanted except paint her toenails in Chick-fil-A. She picked out a special cupcake for "bro-man" too.

California Dreamin'
Lately Finley is fascinated with what she wants to be when she grows up. She's mentioned veterinarian, fireman, artist and singer. Tonight I wanted to capture her sweet imagination and put it in a bottle.
She had been in bed about five minutes.
"Mom, mom, I've got to tell you something." I had started to clean the kitchen and really wanted to let her yell this one out. There are just enough stairs to her room to make my marathon-training legs ache. I know these requests are fleeting though.
"What's up?"
"Mom, you're going to be Lady Gaga and I'm going to be the drummer. Dad can be the rock star. He will have to hold Breaker because he can't walk yet. You can sing in the microphone. No, no. I want to sing first and you can play the drums first."
I'm so glad I made the trip.

Entertainment
We may be missing Friday night's lights, but nothing beats a family road trip!

Note to readers: I've been working on this post since the first of June. Writer's block?
Twelve months and twenty pounds later I have a one-year-old. Here comes the cliche. Time has flown by. I think back to this time last year and the challenges we were facing seem so much farther away. It feels like that time was ages ago. God is good like that. He takes times of trial and shows us how we grew from them rather than causing us to begrudge them.
Enough of the serious stuff. Let's look back on what my little man has been up to in his first year of life.
1. He outgrew his bassinet faster than Jarrett and I anticipated. Breaker has shocked us with his growth. It was almost painstaking for Finley to get weight. B has packed on the pounds. He's not a stuff-your-face kind of guy either. He rarely takes a full eight ounce bottle and when it comes to solids he may chow on half a container at lunch and finish it off at dinner. He's just now learning to sign "more".
2. Bless his heart, his first summer wasn't one for typical summer excursions. He made trips to the back porch, but was too young for the beach or pool. I believe his first beach trip was September. He was snug as a bug in the stroller while Finley stripped to her skivvies.
3. Breaker's first ever football game was in September too. He even got to see the princesses (homecoming court) one of Eli's favorite halftime traditions. My boys know cute girls when they see them!
4. October brought his first ear infections. Double ear infections. He missed Trick or Treating and playing the Beast opposite Finley as Belle. Beebe had painstakingly made his costume. It was perfect. Claws on his socks and hand sewn eyelash fringe on his jacket. Maybe his little boy can wear it one day?
5. In December he made his first trips to Rome and Valdosta. It was crazy. See earlier post :).
I don't remember much about the winter. Momnesia? He finally gave up his middle of the night bottle. I continued to drag him around on errands while Finley was at school. He's sure to enjoy shopping like Jarrett (just enough to make occasional trips with his gal one day).
In May he sat through his first of what I predict to be many dance recitals. We hosted his baby dedication and made two more trips to Rome and Valdosta. In Valdosta we celebrated his Birthday along with two of his cousin's Birthdays! All three of the boys were born within twelve hours of each other. It was wonderful to be with all of Jarrett's side of the family. We got much needed time with Lucy Kate too!

The Dreamiest
Our god daughter, Olivia Holt, celebrated her 4th Birthday today. It has to be the dreamiest Birthday Party I have ever attended. I'm still recounting the details. Amanda, Livie's mom, left no detail undone. It was truly a slice of Disney World on SSI!

Schoolboy B
Breaker is officially part of the "Ones" at Wesley Academy of Early Learning. I'm having difficulty grasping that my baby no longer goes to the nursery and that I've started packing him a lunch.
I've had the opportunity to go back to work three days a week and hence the need for Breaker to begin his academic career a bit earlier than we anticipated.
He has two precious teachers, Miss Ashely and Miss Ashley, and seven adorable little classmates.
Today when I picked him up he was almost asleep on his baby cot. Miss Ashley was rubbing his back. It was a sweet sight.
There was only one minor glitch in the day: A missing lunch! It got lost in the clutter of the baby bag. I'm on the hunt for a mini backpack and lunchbox.
I wanted a more official first day pic, but these say it all!

Born in the USA!
It's weird that July 4th is in the middle of the week, but Jarrett and I did our best to block out the fact that it's back to work tomorrow.
We started the day with a 5K. This wasn't a typical 5K experience for the Bridges Family. The men stayed behind. It was all about the ladies. Mom ran her first race today and I had the absolute joy of finishing with her. It was awesome. I'm not sure of a time I have been more proud of mom. Of course I'm always proud that she's my momma, but for "mom" reasons. This is a different type of pride. It's the type of pride you develop as you become an adult and see a parent step out of their comfort zone. She took a chance and wow. We may not be Flo Jos, but us Carter gals know how to cross a finish line in style.
Our timing for the Sunshine Festival wasn't the best. It was SCORCHING hot and the vendors weren't cranked for business. Yobe to the rescue.
One of Jarrett's dear friends he grew up with, Emily Varner, and her family were in town and came by for a visit. It was wonderful to see her, Gary, Kate and Anna.

The final highlight of the day was swimming with Bo & John Turner. Finley jumped and jumped and jumped. Jarrett managed her while I corralled Breaker the Bronco. And no need for the usual grilled Fourth goodies for him. Leaves will do.
I was prepared to do the five minute game with Finley when it was time to go. Duh. Fireworks. She knew they were coming. She was out of the water without a battle (probably the first and last time this will happen). Last year she literally shook all the way home after thirty seconds of fireworks at the pier.
